Empowered Women for Development is a dynamic organization based in The Gambia, dedicated to empowering women and youths across the nation. Established on the belief that true empowerment begins with a change in mindset, we work relentlessly to equip women and young people with the skills, knowledge, and resources they need to shape their f
uture and lead impactful lives in their communities.
Since our founding in August 2023, we have quickly grown into a united force of women and youths from all seven regions of The Gambia, working together to challenge and overcome the systemic barriers that have long limited opportunities for many in our country.
Our Mission
Our mission is to empower women and youths in The Gambia by fostering a supportive network that provides educational opportunities, vocational training, and leadership development programs. We aim to create an environment where women and youths can thrive, have their voices heard, and lead the development of their communities and the nation as a whole.
Our Vision
We envision a Gambia where every woman and youth has the opportunity to realize their full potential. Our goal is to break down barriers of economic hardship, gender inequality, and limited access to education, ensuring that future generations inherit a more equitable and prosperous society.

Our Programs and Initiatives
Empowered Women for Development offers a variety of programs tailored to meet the needs of women and youths in different regions of The Gambia. These include:
- Skills Training: Providing vocational training in areas such as tailoring, agriculture, and small business management to help individuals gain financial independence.
- Education Initiatives: Offering scholarships and educational programs aimed at increasing literacy and access to formal education for women and youths.
- Advocacy for Women's Rights: Promoting gender equality through advocacy, raising awareness about issues like gender-based violence, discrimination, and equal pay.
- Youth Development: Creating opportunities for young people to engage in leadership development, entrepreneurship, and mentorship programs.
Our History
Empowered Women for Development was officially launched on August 17, 2023, at Brikama College, where women from all over The Gambia gathered to create an organization that reflects their commitment to self-improvement and community development. Despite challenges, including political opposition and intimidation, our launch was a great success, marking the beginning of a nationwide movement for change.
Led by our passionate president, Mrs. Binta BarryTouray, we have already made significant strides towards creating a brighter future for women and youths in The Gambia.
